THEY / THEM
Thes may be small but their presence is prevalent. Quick on their feet and seemingly bustling with endless energy, they get to work quickly. Sometimes this causes them to jump from task to task or topic to topic without much cohesion, but they assure you it’s all relevant. While studious in important duties, they are notorious for a quick wit and casually playing tricks among the many things they work on. It’s not uncommon to be sent on a scavenger hunt to find a book they assign for study or sending their apprentices on what seems like an epic journey just to have them cool their heads. Thes isn’t cruel, though, and tends to often make any task or trick have reason and rhyme for the individual.
Thes’ teaching style is confusing at best, it has no defined structure or path but rather seems to adapt to the apprentice and their current state of mind. Sometimes this causes Thes’ apprentices to suffer a day of harder-than-usual lessons, and sometimes it causes them to wind up repeating things they may have already done. In the end, if one learns to play along with Thes’ strange games there is a great deal of joy and fun to be had with the lessons and knowledge to extract from this cheeky character.


Levels & About

The nature of air is to alter without an obvious source. Generally invisible to the naked eye, this leads many to see Air magic-wielders as sneaky and playful; maybe even rogue-like. The prankster archetype of an Air user may be well-founded, but those who master it are also thoughtful and well-meaning.

Masters of Air magic tend to change their courses abruptly, or pass by without notice. What might seem like a sudden and unforeseen shift in tactics could be incredibly well-planned. On the other hand, they can make quite an entrance if they feel like it, maybe even sweeping others off their feet in the process. Air is life-giving, and often not given the credit it deserves for the incredibly important role it plays.

Bira is quite the studious individual who is hard to notice at first glance among crowds. He makes a great deal of effort to build up others, strengthening their foundation and settling their mind. He can often get lost in the background with how often he puts others ahead of him, but make no mistake this character is not one to underestimate. Bira has great power that is only ever really shown when it's most needed - not even his apprentices often see the full extent of what he can do. He’s not great at speaking with others, but he has an incredibly soft heart when it comes to learning of the struggles and issues one may be dealing with. Even though he may not communicate well, his efforts to help others always leave lasting impressions in the hearts of those around him. If you need a trusted friend, Bira is the one people go to.
Birathan’s main teaching method is to observe, study, and focus on building up what his apprentices do rather than imposing his own way of casting magic onto others. He prefers to let the individuals he is teaching figure things out through their preferred methods and extend his lessons based on that.


Levels & About

Often the appeal of Earth magic is its offer of stability and constancy, but in reality it is always shifting gradually over time. Earth mages are a testament to this; the persistence of change even in the slightest. What may be to some a small action with no effect leads to massive alterations down the line. Even if we do not live to see it, it will still be so.

Masters of Earth magic may seek to harness this gradual change; seeing much potential in the smallest of actions. It is the responsibility of one learning Earth magic to also understand that if not given the time to change at its own pace, built up power can become explosive and uncontrollable. Thus, a balance must be derived. What is enough, what is too little or too much? Earth magic users are often acknowledged as philosophers with keen foresight. They do not seek to stop what changes, they would rather change with it. Despite this deep understanding of change, Earth users can often be stubborn or unyielding once they’ve put their mind to something.

ANY PRONOUNS
Snarky and quick-witted, Lux is typically lost in his own sense of humor. They are quite good at entertaining themselves, leaving others clueless to whatever joke occupies Lux's mind. They are not one to explain it, feeling that humor should speak for itself, despite their sense of it being very much their own. They connect with others through their humor, their personality uniquely charming in that everything they say is often said for themselves, the entertainment of others an added bonus. Lux wants trainees to keep up with their pace, but is empathetic to those who may not mesh with this, slowing down when it becomes apparent that they are struggling to keep up. While their humor often lightens the mood when training with dangerous and unpredictable magics, Lux tends to have little patience for those who don't actively try to keep up, disliking those they see as quitters, almost to a fault. They are susceptible to making assumptions about their students, many finding they must force Lux to change their mind once it has quickly been made up. Ultimately, being social or meshing with others is something they struggle with, but they try their best to keep the mood around them light, even when the tension of electricity fills the air.

About Envello

ANY PRONOUNS
Envello is the definition of a go-lucky, carefree cat. With a joy for laughter and a prankster pastime, they are often seen as the one to spur the laughter of those around them or be the echoing laugh heard from around. It’s hard to know if what Envello says is serious or a clever sly remark told all-too seriously. You can often see it in the way they smirk, waiting for their pun or joke to be picked up on, but even then their tells aren’t always reliable. That all said, Envello is not one to be mistaken for downplaying serious matters or situations. In fact, it’s known they can be rather scary with how much knowledge they have and ability to express the gravity of situations, often detailing specifics to those who dare assume a matter is less serious than Envello believes.
They take their mentor position with a strong sense of duty, ensuring those who learn from them understand fully what they are getting into. While jokes and laughter are part of the commonplace repertoire for Envello while they teach, if they see a mistake they are quick to announce it and correct it. They do not allow the concept of magic to be taken lightly or seen as anything other than a dangerous tool. To them and those they teach, it’s often explained magic must be seen as a power that can harm, and a choice to not do so.

The nature of Ether magic is a precision-based Air mentality. One might often think that the advancement of Air magic into Ether might compound its whimsical and free-thinking aspects. In reality, it’s not quite that clean-cut. Color and music, refraction and vibration, chemical and logical. The unseen atmosphere has a deeper makeup to it that Ether users seek to understand. A burning curiosity and vigor are often traits one might devise of Ether mages, almost to the point of discomfort. It is this keen-ness to observe that often drives them to create and shift the properties of the air around them for the better or the worse. Better or worse or any moral holds little ground when there is progress and discovery to be made. It is this line of thought that tends to make masters of Ether magic great scientists. Often they care little for the consequences and would rather use any ill outcome as a learning experience.

Ether mages can also wield their power for more purely creative pursuits. Many choose the complete opposite of science and become musicians and artists instead, using their discoveries to further advance and redefine their fields.

Giyas has a far more concerning exterior than interior. Being constantly alight with an element most wormkin find a death sentence is enough to cause individuals to stay wary and distanced. The personality of this individual is far more welcoming than his appearance. Playful and even sometimes considered a prankster, Giyas encourages finding enjoyment in small things and focusing on the fun in life. Despite his mischievous ways, he still shows great understanding and respect to those around him who may not be as ready to approach or interact, keeping most of his antics to those he grows more familiar with.
Giyas’ teaching style is focused on calming fears of the apprentice and uplifting the confidence of them as well, focusing on understanding fire as any other element of life: Dangerous yet capable of many wonderful things. When training with Giyas, he fully expects you to take your time and figure yourself out and struggle with fears. He will focus on lightening the mood if growing ever too dark, and building one's confidence over time.

Fire has often been seen as a polarizing element with both positive and negative connotations. While one person may see its destructive force and cower, another may marvel at the granting of new life and rebirth. 

Those who use Fire are often seen as one of two ends of a spectrum; one end touting strong all-consuming blazes that ravage without restraint, the other more nurturing, sequestering comfort from the flame that could warm the coldest of hearts. Fire is an innately transformative magic that requires a patient hand to master and not allow to get out of control.

About Vetra

SHE/THEY
Despite her low tone and small movements, it’s hard not to notice when Vetra enters either scene or conversation. She has an uncanny ability to cause unease in those around, watching them while (unintentionally) seeming to pressure their behavior to be the best. It’s hard to feel like one can be easygoing or carefree with her gaze upon you.
Even with this dominating aura, Vetra is actually quite patient. She tends to observe and quietly assess people and their actions and thus she speaks truthfully with only intent on how to resolve a matter or explain something best. Often it seems she will hold her tongue unless her voice is specifically needed.
Vetra teaches with little demonstration and most often with purely study and instruction. She has a keen eye and precise words. While she doesn’t take kindly to those who squander her time acting foolish, she is patient with those who need more time to grasp something they truly desire. It is rare you will see her cast her magic, but if she does you will notice forceful intent behind it with large demonstrations of power. She doesn’t often hold back her magic capabilities but equally won’t show them off without solid reason.
Although rare, she can be seen sometimes making gentle snowfall around another specific mentor as they spend time with one another.

Refreshing and cool, Ice can be considered as important to the world as its predecessor, Water. Those who wield Ice magic might be described as cutting, or uncaring. They tend to process information slowly; fixating on one thing at a time, for a long time. They dislike moving on from a task too quickly. An Ice user has no issues speaking bluntly, which may compound their reputations for being cold characters. Being natural contrarians, one who masters Ice magic may relish in the satisfaction of proving others wrong, or not taking the expected path. They know they are valuable, and some might take advantage of that status to get away with having an attitude, or worse. The temperature qualities of Ice and other forms of frozen water make Ice magic a special and prized commodity especially in warmer regions of Skire. It is not uncommon for there to be an “Ice Baron” appointed in a desert establishment.

On the other hand, an Ice mage might also embrace the childlike wonder one feels when they see snow; preferring to use their powers to bring happiness and relief in plentiful ways to those less fortunate. A responsible Ice user must also know the dangers of using their power too wantonly; as great shifts in environmental temperature for too long could cause catastrophic problems.

  • I -- Existing ice can be manipulated to change its shape on a small scale. Additionally, naturally occurring ice and snow can be handled without melting. Cold climate does not bother you.
  • II -- The temperature of liquids can be tipped to form solid ice. Fluids within other things (such as plants or reservoirs) can also be frozen. Sheets of ice may form under oneself to hold weight.
  • III -- The ability to freeze is almost instantaneous, as well as being able to freeze any particles of water in the air or elsewhere and gather them together. This can also be used to form ‘spears’, pillars, or other weapons and blockades of ice to attack or defend with.

Ryalt is a mellow CCCat, slow moving and calm, like the magma he wields. On any normal day, he prefers to keep it slow, often found lounging around comfortably. This demeanor switches on a dime when it comes to training, battle, and magic, described by some as a unhealthy level of enthusiasm. Ryalt struggles to hold back and teaches with a similar non-stop mentality to the point where it often gets dangerous for any students. Like an erupting volcano, the initial rush of magma and ash is like a wall, taking out everything in its path, Ryalt's magic similar. Finding ways to work around this imposing force is integral, and while Ryalt easily loses himself in his magic, he knows that teaching perseverance and being headstrong is an invaluable skill to develop. Those who have trained with Ryalt recommend that newcomers prepare in advance, Birathan and Giyas far gentler in their approach. While their magics are integral to understanding Magma, their teaching styles are as well, key to keeping Ryalt calm. Most say that frustration, interruption, or boring them enough to break their stride. Often described as an unstoppable force, hiccuping his one-track-mind by surprising him tends to force him to stop and think. In all other scenarios, Ryalt is an understanding and kind force, simply too susceptable to the heat of the moment.

About Roxwell

HE/THEY
With a presence and personality that can only be described as imposing, Roxwell takes great pride in his teachings and experience. He can be by-the-book and corporate in his day to day life and general mannerisms or treatment. Roxwell handles many matters involving businesses and duties for many important individuals, often seen as the director behind the curtain. He has his own building built by himself for mentoring and other tasks, brutalist and bold similar to him. Formal and precise with his actions, most would find reason to be wary of failing this particular man as a scolding would surely be had. Yet, when he does get a moment to cater to his own business of mentorship, his personality shines through with a true sense of pride and joy that most rarely see in him. His demeanor changes - not too much - but enough to allow him a deep laugh and teasing attitude when it comes to the failures or mistakes of those he mentors. He still tends to be rather harsh or formal, but there is an obvious smile he hardly wears anywhere else than his own teaching grounds.

Not unlike its predecessor, Metal magic offers a healthy mix of stability and moldability to individuals who wield it. Earth and Metal mages tend to be closely associated; often sharing their crafts together to form intricate collaborations. However, where an Earth mage might be unwilling to change, a Metal magic user is more willing to alter tactics for a more favorable result. They are highly moldable individuals often a product of the environment around them. Those who use Metal are resilient, and unlikely to crumble or crack under pressure. Instead, each trial is used as a stepping stone to adapt; each scratch and dent is a trophy. Do you yield to time’s scar, or change to become stronger? That is usually the mindset Metal mages possess. They’re highly protective people, and might stow away sensitive feelings inside a steely shield rather than express them.

Under all that fancy exterior, the base often stays the same, and some users of Metal might find they have a tendency to fall back into old habits when remembering their roots.

Iorel, a name known far beyond her position as just a mentor. She is famous among the mentors not solely for her teachings, but her displays of magic as a whole. Iorel uses her magic and knowledge to help teach others the beauty of magic and benefits it can have for everyone who may wish to learn or even welcome it as day to day uses. She publicizes the opportunity magic presents as a whole, focusing on the ways magic can be seen as less scary and more beneficial. She puts on shows and presentations of her magic and others who have learned from her, focusing on power and beauty as two sides of one coin. She makes great effort to teach these aspects to those she mentors, dealing in great depths people understand the knowledge it takes to learn the magic and experience needed to use it, but most of all the skill one must possess to truly bring out its full potential. She is not a tough mentor, but she can be quick to give up on those who do not make their effort or interest clear. She grows bored of anyone seeking only one aspect out of magic such as solely the power, only the beauty, etc. She wants someone who can see a coin shine as it flips through the air and question how it may land, not marvel at a single picture one side presents still and unmoving.

At the beginning when the first sparks are lit, or in the trail of a raging fire, clouds of many shades billow upwards. What is left after the burn is ash and Smoke, the tangible and intangible. It lingers in the air, as a smell in your clothes, and as a memory of what cannot be undone.

Mages skilled in the use of Smoke know well that destructive power of fire lends second into this vaporous form. A far more insidious killer; one that blankets the sky and conceals your sight, hindering your perception of the world around you. Those who master its uses tend to be mysterious but boisterous individuals. Their presence commands space, often silencing rooms full of people with their large and suffocating auras.

If you hope to document history, approaching a master of Smoke is your best bet. They’re incredibly sharp; able to recall even mundane events that others might forget. With the power to bestow clarity also comes the ability to sow seeds of doubt. Smoke mages are often seen as spiritual guides; their words interpreted as truth more often than not. What reason is there to not trust one who remembers everything?

Faceless is a mysterious figure to nearly everyone, elusive and often unseen. He is known for being studious, paranoid, and on-edge, typically sequestering himself away to be found by those interested in his teachings. Equally, he holds a somber air much of the time. Faceless can be incredibly strict with his apprentices and be quick to lose patience, but he often is just as quick to apologize and act like a wounded dog afterwards. He clearly has trauma, but inwardly has been working to get past it and teach those around him to not lose their way with power or reason. Often, Faceless teaches people more than just magic as his lessons tend to dive into philosophy and to be aware of one's abilities. He has an incredible knack for knowing if one is approaching him with bad intentions in mind, even if they hide it well. He will not hesitate to cut those off from lessons if he feels they are headed into a path of using what he teaches for harm. Faceless prefers to keep his lessons small 1 on 1 experiences and is need to be sought out as he doesn't make himself known easily.

  • I -- Observing the physical space, beginning Space users can feel the bindings of the world around them and alter them in minor ways. Very small items may be given capability to float for short periods of time or tied down by strengthened gravity.
  • II -- Small portals can be formed that lead to different areas the Space mage has intimate knowledge of and allow inanimate objects through. Small pocket dimensions can also be formed to hold objects within.
  • III -- Portals can be larger and reach more complex and distant destinations as well as allow the space mage to travel through them. The Space user can begin to bend gravity and use it to move or halt objects of greater size or complexity.
  • IV -- The stars and galaxies afar are no stranger to you. Even places you have never been are able to be located with the knowledge you've attained. You can alter space around you for a non-permanent amount of time. The area of control for gravitational alteration is also expanded and allow the individual to alter aspects of their own gravity for a short time.
  • V - Masters of Space have been rumored to have no bounds to the places they can travel or open portals. It's even been said that the greatest ones can host large pocket dimensions with little effort.
