Sam is the getaway driver for his space crew. He is a skilled driver of nearly any vehicle and a decent mechanic himself. He created his own ship, named Firefly-09. Sam is a very stoic character with a RBF. Internally, he feels like he's one of the weakest members of the team. This is the main reason he starts to learn magic to a dangerous degree. After leaving for months, on his way back to his team after training, his ship will crash on a foreign planet.

Sam met Nalin after he saved him from the crash. Since he's now stranded on this planet, he "lives" with Nalin in between finding scrap and going to town to build his ship again. During this time Nalin will inadvertantly let Sam bring his stoic guard down.

Raith crook rival: when first crashing on the planet and hanging with Nalin for a while, Raith eventually comes back from a personal trip. Seeing Sam near Nalin, he gets protective and goes to attack Sam, causing them to fight before Nalin breaks them up and explains to Raith Sam is a friend. They begrudgingly let each other slide, but Sam is fully aware Raith is a murderer and a cannibal. He starts to worry more for Nalin than anything, since the large crook could turn at any moment. After they all build their treehouse in the future, Sam will eventually let this grudge slide at seeing Raith and Nalin sleeping peacefully together. He sits by the window and looks towards the sky, longing home and his crew but also a close relationship.
