Arcturus is a skire oceanographer and marine biologist. He used to mainly do onfield research, but after sustaining an injury that cost him his leg and cracks to his shell, he does more testing and tracking instead of being out and about. He meets Sam this way, as the incident that caused his injury was from rampaging skires, in which Sam's galactic team had been visiting the planet and was lucky enough to save some of the injured townspeople. Sam being the designated getaway driver took as many injured citizens from the premise as he could, Arcturus being one of them.

After the cleanup of the attack, Sam had stayed behind to make sure the injured were healing alright. In this time, Arcturus and him become friends, and they continue to keep in contact. Arcturus decides to become more interested in mechanics; because Sam is rather knowledgeable, so he can take care of his amputated leg himself, and also find something more active to do in his field.

Arcturus meets Nalin through Sam, and relieves a bit of fear he's had about swimming.
