There have been tales of an old library buried deep in the old mountain ranges surrounding meteor lake, filled with books and knowledge dating back to some of the first Skire creatures to exist. It is rumored to have thousands, perhaps millions, of books that cover every genre - mystery, fantasy, history, etc.

It had yet to be found until just recently when an explorer came across the cliffside library on a perilous hike through the mountains. After spending some time in the old relic, the traveler returned to spread word of its wonders.

Interest in the library quickly spread and soon enough there were groups of Skire inhabitants making their way to the ancient nook of knowledge. The path to get there is by no means easy as thin cliff sides and steep falls are around every step and turn, but with a bit of work visitors can get there and fully experience it.

Entering the library is old mysticality - vast stone columns scatter across the interior that are all filled to the brim with books of old and new. It seems almost never ending as you look around the old interior and see the bookshelves lined from floor to ceiling, with little nooks and seating areas for reading - for being a place that was supposed to be hidden for such a long time, it seems rather well kept and filled with places for visitors to enjoy.

As you enter the large library, you are greeted by an older CCCat with moth wings, excitement and interest in the influx of every character that enters the room. He addresses all the new entrants in a raspy, old voice, but with a smile on his face. “Welcome, welcome! My name is Borrow and welcome to the Compendium - a wonderful collection of the history of Skire and the stories created within it. We have got thousands and thousands of books for you to read and explore… It’s been so long since I have had visitors ever since...” You see him trail off for a second, before he looks back up beaming once more. “It has been my duty for my entire life to take care of the knowledge and word stored behind those doors, and the stories you can find here are always so very thrilling. I have all kinds of favorites or recommendations should you need them - or! Or if you need any questions answered I can help.” He prattles on for a bit about a book he recently read before catching himself and giving an embarrassed chuckle.

Borrow

“I apologize - It has just been so long since I have been able to share my passion with others. I do hope you all enjoy perusing the library - oh! If you fine patrons of the literary arts would like to hear one of my favorite stories, I will be doing a reading this evening open to all. That way I can enjoy a good story along with all of my new friends. Though I’ll need some help choosing!” He fixes his glasses a bit as he grips a book to his chest, and then motions his arm towards the hoards of books behind him. “Please! Go ahead and explore!”

There are many nooks and crannies to curl up with a novel, or corners populated with seating and stacks of ornate pillows and blankets. Hidden in one of the corners is a small tea and coffee house, stocked with beverages from across skire. What is their favorite genre of book to read? Perhaps they find a corner of the library dedicated to that genre.

Please don’t feel limited by the ideas above as it is just a general idea to help you think of what to create!

Borrow comes into his normal and most common place in the library with a look that could be seen as far away. Though he approaches his podium as he has the last few weeks with a warm smile to those who have been patiently waiting for him to give the next tidbit of information, his overall demeanor seems distant. He opens the book slowly, almost delicately, and spends a bit of time flipping through the pages before coming to a stop.

“I see you all are just as excited as I am to know about who dwells in the story, hm?” He chuckles, and the far away stare once again focuses on the skire creatures in front of him. He smiles as he adjusts his glasses and sets his eye down on the crevice of the book. “Let me introduce you to the characters of the book…”

“First, we have the detective. A hero from out of town that has been known to solve mysteries and capture beasts of the unknown from everywhere - though has recently fallen on hard times. The amount of mystery and monsters has fallen to an all time low in the cities and towns they normally cater to, as they are no longer the only detective that goes after these beasts. Younger, stronger detectives have come into the fray, and despite their knowledge, they do not do things by the new standards, as they prefer their own. They want to get their name back out there… Even if it means travelling to the small, forgotten town of Runswick.”

There’s silence for a moment, before an eerie voice whispers through the crowd, like an echo off of the stone columns. “Sounds like you Borrow, doesn’t it? Needing to get your name back out there...”

Borrow clears his throat to continue. “Second, we have the detective’s trusty sidekick - a funny albeit nervous little fellow. They have been around with the detective for quite some years, though they would be more than smart enough to make a business of their own. Though, they tend to keep their smarts a bit hidden as they would prefer to stay with the detective, working together to beat the mysterious beasts of the world. Their fright of the monsters sometimes can be a bit of the hindrance in the moment, but have been known to power past their fear if their dear friend is in danger.”

“If only you had done the same for me, Borrow. But you wanted it all.”

Borrow clears his throat once more, and shakes his head as he continues onto the final character. “Lastly, there is the mysterious old bartender. Been stuck around in Runswick for years, born and raised until they stuck a job as a bartender in their younger age. And as the detective and their sidekick make their way into the bar, the bartender gives them exactly what they ask for - the rumor of a foul beast that prowls through Runswick at night, aiming to exact revenge on the town for something awful that happened years ago. They even explain that they lost one of their arms in one of the beast’s rampages, leaving him with a wooden and steel arm.”

Borrow finishes the final character with a quiet shut of the book. There’s silence for a moment, his eye swiveling around as if looking for something in the shadows, before he clears his throat to speak once more. Though a shakiness captures his voice, “An interesting band of characters! Though now it just leads to the question… What’s going to happen once the story begins?”

He gives a smile as he picks up his eye, tucking it neatly back into his mouth. “It’s been an anticipating feeling up until this point, and here soon we will begin! I can not wait to share this with you all soon!” Borrow hops off of the podium once more, beginning to walk away from the gathering of CCCats and Crooks alike, though his eyes wander down every aisle of bookshelves he passes…

“Neither can I, old friend… Neither can I.”

Quite interesting characters that have been shown! A detective, sidekick, and bartender all working together to take down a mysterious beast. How interesting…

Soon, the story will begin for all of the book enthusiasts to enjoy. Keep an ear out for the beginning of The Seclusion of the Sun!
